ABOUT MEMariya Hoyin (Ukraine, 1982) is an artist working in analog photography, performance, collage and graphics. A graduate of the Lviv National Academy of Fine Arts. She completed the photographic project "Periphery" during her stay at the AIR Wro residence (curator: Magdalena Skowronska, Wroclaw, Poland, 2016), during her stay on the scholarship Gaude Polonia created a photographic project called "Three Dots" (tutor Ewa Zarzycka, Wroclaw, Poland, 2017), during her stay at the Multimedia Ukrainian Plein Air in Ustka, she created an art book “Diary during the War” (curator: Weronika Teplicka, Ustka, Poland, 2022), during the temporary work at the Labyrinth Gallery, she created comics about the daily life of the Labyrinth Gallery (Lublin, Poland, 2023).

THOUGHTS...
When the war began, the world around me changed abruptly. What once seemed stable and unshakable was destroyed in an instant. I felt pain, fear, and uncertainty. However, I realized that creativity could become the bridge connecting my past and future, helping me to make sense of what was happening and find meaning in it.
New images and symbols emerged in my work, reflecting my inner state and experiences. I started paying more attention to details, trying to convey what is difficult to express in words. Each piece became a form of reflection, a way to understand and process painful events.
The theme of memory has always been important to me, but in the context of war, it has become even more significant. I strive to preserve the memory of people and events that have changed me and my world. My works have become a kind of diary, where every detail has its meaning and symbolism.
Creativity helps me stay free and strong, even in the most challenging moments. It allows me to express what accumulates inside and find peace and inspiration in it. Through creativity, I find meaning and strength to move forward, even when it seems that all is lost.
